Sardegna – Italy

Sardegna is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean and is home to some distinctive wines. Sardegna is home to some of the oldest vineyards in Italy, with some vines dating back to 1200 BC. The region’s ancient terroir is influenced by the island’s granite soils, rugged terrain, and you guessed a Mediterranean climate.

The top wine styles from Sardinia are made from the native grape varieties such as Cannonau, Vermentino, and Carignano, producing full-bodied red wines, crisp whites, and aromatic rosés. The top sub-regions include Cannonau di Sardegna and Vermentino di Gallura – again you can probably guess what they make at each place. Sardinia’s wine industry is showing great promise as the region’s unique terroir and native grape varieties are gaining recognition in the global market.
