• Sette is a splendid vineyard in Nizza, Monferrato, with five and a half hectares of vines aged between 20 and 75 years old. Purchased in 2017 by friends Gianluca Colombo and Gino Della Porta, they set about converting the property to organic farming immediately. The vines benefit from the abundance of chalk that characterizes the soil and has an altitude of 200 meters above sea level.  Whilst a great array of fruit trees can be found throughout the vineyard, commitment has been made to plant more than 40 old tree varieties of local fruit and tall trees per year.   • Founded in 1955, this co-operative is comprised of 200 members with 550 hectares of vineyards around Nizza Monferrato. This is an excellent area for Barbera, which constitutes over 60% of the grapes that are harvested and crushed by this co-op. In Alba, the best sites are given to Nebbiolo, but in Asti this privilege is afforded to Barbera. Director and winemaker Giovanni Chiarle oversees all aspects of production and is determined to make wines that fully express the quality of the grapes that he harvests. This wine is made from grapes from the oldest vines grown on the co-op’s best sites. After fermentation, the wine is aged for a period of around six months in large Slavonian oak and then blended to make a wine that is vibrant and, at the same time, structured and long, a worthy example of a Barbera Superiore from Nizza. Delicious with pizza, grilled lamb cutlets or pasta with meaty sauces. Also perfect with strong hard cheeses.
  • This is a fantastic blend of Barbera and Nebbiolo sourced from younger vineyards within the area of production of the villages of Barbaresco and Barolo given the Langhe Appellation. Fragrant, lifted fruits of the forest overlaid by notes of dried herbs, some leather and aniseed. This is a medium bodied wine, very well balanced with plush fruit character, sandy tannins and a lovely fresh clip of acidity delivering excellent Italian drinkability. Very approachable wine that will match brilliantly with food as well being great on its own. I can only think of Pasta, pasta and Pasta. Pizza would work perfectly too! .
  • Colli Tortonesi Rosso DOC by OltreTorrente Winery is a natural red wine with rich red and black fruit, which will conquer even the most demanding. Chiara Penati and Michele Conoscente are raising their two children amongst the vineyards, barrels, and tanks, giving another weight to the concept “family winery”. The relatively new (only 10 years old) winery on Tortona Hills in Piedmont is the epitome of a boutique winery. The family owns only 7 hectares of old vineyards and makes a few bottles of only 4 labels. Imagine that in total they do not exceed 15,000 bottles. Mild natural winemaking comes to emphasize the concentration offered by the old vines and the unique character of the terroir. Colli Tortonesi Rosso DOC by OltreTorrente Winery is a blend of Barbera (90%) and Dolcetto (10%) from 40-year-old vines. The blend matures for 8 months in concrete tanks and for 6 months in the bottle. The result is juicy and intense, with impressive fruit purity.
