• Made in a Beaujolais style, with the carbonic maceration method.  This juicy ''Joven'' fresh fruited style of Rioja has zero oak influence as it ages in concrete tanks for 6 months. Farmed without any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Arturo Blanco was once asked what the philosophy at Bodegas Artuke was and he simply replied 'we are farmers'. The approach here is 100% focused on interpreting the family's 32 plots which are split between the villages of Baños de Ebro and Ábalos in Rioja Alavesa. Biodynamic techniques are employed in the vineyards and Arturo and Kike are also busy recovering old, ignored plots of ancient vines. Vinification is aimed at expressing the characteristics of the vineyard and quality of fruit above all else. The restrained use of oak and inclination towards different types/sizes of barrel, plus an unwillingness to adhere to the subscribed regimes for classification means that Artuke are precluded from using Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva designations on their wines. This mouth-watering red wine takes a relatively deep chill which makes it a versatile pairing with all types of food: tuna, pretty much anything made with zucchini, fried chicken, gooey cheese sandwiches, pizza, etc…
  • Badiola is a winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Founded in 2018 by acquiring an existing winery, Badiola offers village and single vieyard wines that display the freshness, elegance and depth of flavours which distinguish the great wines from this part of Rioja. Badiola cultivates over 300 parcels of extraordinary vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, mainly in the villages of villabuena de Alava, Leza, Samaniego, Laguardia, Navaridas and Banos de Ebro. Averag age of the vines are 50 years old which means that fruit is of outstanding quality and well the vine is well inserted into the soil and not as prone to climatic issues that may arise. This wine is made from high quality, low yelding grapes from hillside(Laderas) vines on limestones soils, without the need for carbonic maceration to mask unripe or unhealthy fruit. About a quarter of the wine is aged from 4 to 6 months in new barriques of top quality French and American Oak, for added complexity and texture, but not overt oak character. A versatile and very satisfying drinking wine and a great example of cooler climate Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa. A good match with both meat and fish-based tapas, mezze, rice dishes and pasta.
  • Rioja Gabaxo Olivier Riviere Biodynamic Wine, Wild yeast, French oak Maturation, full bodied but beautifully fresh and balanced. No new oak in Gabacho, but loads of classy Rioja character and sheer drinkability! Gabacho does see some wood, a small amount of old french barrels are used for ageing up to a year. This adds no flavour but helps to soften the wine slightly. This really is lovely stuff, rich but very fresh and balanced red wine with a touch of the dark and brooding about it and a touch of the animal too. It benefits from decanting and also from good bottle ageing. Try it, it will change your mind about Rioja

  • In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, in conjunction with a group of friends and business associates from Vitoria, decided to set up an innovative project in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. Thus Bodegas Izadi came into being, situated in the triangle formed by the towns of Villabuena, Samaniego and Ábalos, the triangular motif on its labels, and with the clear objective of giving maximum expression to the fruit of that particular location, that natural environment so well-loved (Izadi means 'nature' in Basque), integrating innovation and tradition. This particular vineyard is situated 800m above sea level where the vines are planted in a mix of calcareous and clay soils. Izadi is also one of the few wineries truly involved with gastronomy, aware that even though there's a wine for every moment, on 90% of occasions it's served and enjoyed accompanied by food; and so that's why Izadi offers a wide variety of wines, all of which are very versatile. It's slogan leaves us in no doubt: "Wine and gastronomy are our passion". Since 2001, Lalo Antón has been heading up and managing the winery, and responsible for having driven forward business beyond local boundaries, as well as having started a programme of expansion with the successful Artevino group.   • Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN lies in the heart of Rioja Alta and boasts one of the most spectacular single-vineyard sites in the region: Viña Lanciano. The name LAN comes from the initials of the three provinces of the Rioja Designation of Origin: Logroño, Álava and Navarra.
  • Bodega Badiola, was founded in 2018, part of the Peninsula Vinicultore Group when they bought an old company in the in Rioja Alavesa, the Basque region in the east and south east of Rioja. Their vineyards are situated on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, mostly tiny parcels the average size being only 0.3 hectares with an average vine age of 50 years but some of the vines are obviously significantly older. With respect for the environment, minimal spraying of copper and sulphur only are used, so all but Organic. The Las Parcelas comes from 300 carefully selected parcels of old bush Tempranillo vines planted in limestone soils, resulting in elegant wines that are fresh and age worthy due to the balancing acidity. The winemaking philosophy is to keep that purity and freshness by careful use of oak, giving a real point of difference to the traditional oaky Riojas. On the nose and palate, the fruit is very much to the fore with cherry and blackberry fruit with hints of spice and with fresh acidity and almost chalky tannins from that limestone soils. Though it is still young give it some air and it really blossoms, drinking significantly better at dinner rather than lunch when first opened, so will keep well too.
  • Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest Rioja wineries. Founded in Elciego (Álava) in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga. Since the beginning they have always had a clear vocation for creating the quintessential Spanish wines from Rioja. Marqués de Riscal Reserva is a red wine made with Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo from vineyards that are over 40 years old, located on clayey-calcareous soils. After the harvest, the grapes ferment at a controlled temperature with a maceration of 12 days. Once the harvest has finished, the wine goes through a minimum ageing of 2 years in American oak barrels. It is left to stand in the bottle for a minimum of one year before it is launched on to the market. A wine that falls within the canons of Riojan classicism, fresh, fine, elegant and with great ageing potential.
  • Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 in Haro by Félix Martínez Lacuesta. A winemaker, lawyer, politician and publicist, he was the first president of the National Association of Winegrowers and Wine Industries, as well as of the Rioja Wine Union. He was also one of the creators of the Regulating Board of D.O. Rioja, where he represented his fellow winemakers. The philosophy of this century-old winery is to produce the best wines from the best grapes. To do so, they have plots distributed throughout Rioja Alta, searching for the best vineyards and buying, up until this day, new plots to plant new vines. Martínez Lacuesta Reserva is a wine made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo, from vineyards located at 450-600 metres of altitude. Their vines, of an average of 25 years old, are planted on clayey-calcareous soils. Suitable to accompany white or red meats, fishes with sauce, grilled meat or vegetables
  • Palacio del Camino Real winery is located in the Najerilla Valley in Rioja. Isolated by the absence of railways and therefore the big wineries, the Najerilla Valley has maintained a tradition of small vineyards, consistently producing fruit of extraordinary freshness and quality. Palacio del Camino Real Crianza is a return to the essence of Rioja wines from the beginning of the 20th century in which Garnacha was the protagonist and a small percentage of white grapes could also be found. They are fresh, elegant, round and friendly wines. Palacio del Camino Real Crianza, is a red wine with an attractive ruby ​​red color that impresses with its complex nose in which the nuances of its aging are perfectly integrated with the freshness and intensity of its chosen grapes. In the mouth it is a wine, it is a fresh, friendly, balanced wine with a long aftertaste.
  • Olivier Riviere, founder and winemaker at Rayos Uva Rioja, is originally from Cognac. He studied in St-Emilion and then made wine in southern France and Burgundy before moving to Ribera del Duero in 2004, when he started leasing land and purchasing fruit for his new Spanish blends. Finally, in 2013, Olivier bought his first 3.5 acres in Rioja Alavesa; Rayos Uva is now in its sixth vintage. Olivier's holdings are substantially larger now, but he still sources fruit from his favorite bodegas. Grown by Bodegas Lacus where Olivier is also the winemaker, this 2021 is a blend of hand-harvested Tempranillo and Graciano that is semi-carbonically fermented in tanks with wild yeasts. Aged 10-12 months in tank and concrete foudre. An exciting Rioja with a French artisanal sensibility. Slightly filtered. It is recommended to open the bottle half an hour before consuming it to express the true potential.
  • Bodegas Hermanos de Peciña is firmly planted in the old school camp. Although the estate was started only in 1992, its founder, Pedro Peciña had worked for over 20 years prior to that as the head agronomist for La Rioja Alta, learning all facets of production and especially the planting and managing of all the estate’s vineyards. The Peciña winery and vineyards are located in San Vicente, which while technically in the Rioja Alta sub-zone, is not in the vicinity of Haro where most of the other traditional Rioja houses have their cellars. Rather it is located on the northeast side of the Ebro river near the border of the Basque Alavesa zone. These vineyards  - many 40 to 60 years old - are actually some of the finest in the appellation as they fall at the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains at an average of 500 meters, and offer hillside expositions as well as complex and diverse soils. Many of Peciña’s most prized vineyards are actually on north facing slopes which Pedro feels helps give the wines good freshness and delineation. Serve with aperitif, Charcuterie, Cured cheeses, Smoked foods    
  • Viña Cubillo wines come from the vineyard called Viña Cubillas, some 4 km away from the bodega, which as with all of the other vineyards, was bought by our founder. Historically these wines were called "Special Harvest". For 143 years, four generations of the López de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines. Masterpieces which have achieved that which the founder of the company, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, defined in the late nineteenth century as the "Supreme Rioja". Vineyard care, a scrupulous selection of grapes, ageing in oak barrels in the heart of deep underground galleries, and the later ageing in bottles, all contribute to making these illustrious wines with their exceptional bouquet. Decant it for an hour if possible, It goes perfectly with all meat dishes, tapas and assorted antipasti, sausages, small game and wild mushrooms.
