Carlos Lucas created Magnum Vinhos in 2012 so still a relatively new winery based in the Dão region of Portugal. Ribeiro Santo was an ancient property of the local priest, surrounded by a stream where water flows all year round, so it was named “Quinta do Ribeiro Santo”, which means “Holly River Estate”. The vineyard is planted with the local varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinto Cão and Encruzado, which were planted in poor ground granite, with large rocky outcrops, which overlooks the Serra da Estrela. Ribeiro Santo Reserva is a red wine of extreme elegance. Of an intensely aromatic character, it highlights wild fruit aromas seasoned with balsamic notes and nuances of vanilla. It presents juicy tannins and great acidity. The wine has plenty of weight but without being too over blown. Try this with suckling pig, roast beef, mushrooms and soft cheeses.
