Burn Cottage Vineyard Property is a twenty four hectare estate in the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family based in Chicago.
At Burn Cottage they believe in minimal intervention winemaking. Task is to discover the genius of the site and of the individual vineyard blocks within and to allow the wines to reveal it.
The Moonlight Race name comes from a water pathway which passes through their Burn Cottage Property, one of the hundreds of water channels, “races”, which were created during the early years of European immigration to bring water down from the mountains. The Moonlight Race ebbs and flows during our seasons, its beginnings held in melted snow and rain high in the Pisa Mountain Range, 1100-1600 Metres above the Burn Cottage property. In their work with biodynamic farming, using the moon phases is an important part of how its farmed and keep the property and vineyard alive.
Moonlight Race is solely about three unique estate vineyards: Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, and the Sauvage & Luna Vineyards in Bannockburn. The combination of these three sites produces a vibrant expression of classic Central Otago Pinot Noir The wines were nurtured using traditional care and attention
